Portland, Oregon based Vidoop LLC told employees this weekend that they were officially out of business. Vidoop is a young but popular provider of OpenID technology for both businesses and consumers. The failure comes less than a year after the company moved its headquarters, employee’s and their families out to Portland from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Since their arrival in Portland, Vidoop has conducted two rounds of layoff’s leading up to this latest announcement.
The most shocking news is that Vidoop LLC apparently does not have enough cash on hand to pay employee wages owed for days already worked. In lieu of paychecks, Vidoop CEO Joel Norvell is offering employees free computers and other offices supplies. These details were obtained through a leaked inter-company email and have not been independently confirmed.
On Sunday, however, hope returned for Vidoop. The following message was posted on the companies official Twitter identity at 1:41pm on May 31st: “dead, no. bloody, yes. still got fight left. details soon…” This could mean that company executives are scrambling to raise a round of venture funding to keep the company going. They have heralded technology and boast customers such as AOL and MySpace. It’s widely believed that a failed venture deal just months ago is the cause of this weekends shutdown. An quick injection of cash would allow Vidoop to reemerge and continue winning new business.
