Portland is quickly becoming known for it’s community love of unconferences. An unconference, for those seeing this term for the first time, is a conference for and by participants. No booths, banners or bureaucratic schedules. Past Portland unconferences have included BarCamp, WordCamp and CyborgCamp. The latest in stumptown’s growing tradition is The Idea Camp, kicking off Friday Nov 20th, 2009.
The Idea Camp is a FREE, open source hybrid conference designed to help people move from the realm of ideas to implementation. While the event is open to anyone, whether your interests are in non-profit work, social entrepreneurialism, technology, media, creativity, culture making (for example), this unconference has a strong focus on the role of churches in our communities. Workshops (called Idea Sessions) include: Story Telling in the Neighborhood, Power and Servant Leadership and Forming Partnerships With The Business Community, School Districts, Local Media and Government, just to name a few. Many workshop leaders are also strong community leaders from around the Northwest (and beyond!).
Idea Camp will be held November 20th and 21st at Portland Foursquare Church (1302 SE Ankeny St.) from 8:30am to 5:00pm. You can also follow the event via Twitter with the hashtag #ideacamp or by following the events official Twitter account. To learn more, visit the events web site at theideacamp.com.
It's gonna be awesome! Hope to see you all there!
Thanks for sharing about IdeaCamp Jeff. I'm leading one of the Idea Sessions.
" Kingdom Causing" IdeaCamp Portand NW…unconferenc(ing)
Religion is so creepy. Why don't they just come out and say that this is a religious event? I had to dig through three or four webpages to finally figure out what exactly this event is about, until I stumbled up on language like "We must work together with our city stakeholders to bring the kind of change God desires."
Just say no to astroturfing.
