The Oregonian is reporting through their Silicon Forest blog that hometown sweetheart Tektronix laid off workers today. No details were immediately available from Tektronix or their parent company, Danaher.
Last month Tektronix announced that they would be moving some production to China and it was widely accepted that layoff’s in Beaverton would be imminent. At that time, Tektronix offered this statement:
Today [August 19th, 2009], Tektronix announced plans to consolidate a number of our manufacturing operations from our Beaverton location to our existing Tektronix plant in Shanghai, China. The transition work will continue throughout 2010. This decision was reached after evaluation and collaboration with the State of Oregon regarding alternatives to position Tektronix to remain competitive over the long term. Additionally, we continue to adjust our business to align with market conditions and ensure that we remain positioned for growth.
Approximately 400 people work at the Tektronix production facility located in Beaverton. Mike Rogoway of the Oregonian reports rumors of as many as 200 people being laid off. This is the second round of layoff’s from Tektronix since being acquired by Danaher. Last November they let go 150 employees.
Stay tuned for more details as they become available.
