A come from behind, double over time win by the Ducks in Tuscon Arizona has guaranteed that an Oregon school will be in the Rose Bowl this year. Now we wait until December 3rd to find out if it will be the Ducks or the Beavers.
Despite having only 1 Pac-10 loss, the Oregon Ducks were facing a must win situation against the University of Arizona tonight and a must win against Oregon State in nearly 2 weeks. The Ducks got out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Arizona made the score 14-10 going into half time. Arizona dominated the 3rd quarter and most of the 4th before Jeremiah Masoli lead his team to a last second touchdown that tied the game at 31. The first overtime ended with both teams scoring a touchdown but after Arizona only scored 3 points in the second overtime, the Ducks had an opening. They capitalized on it with a strong drive ending in a 1 yard touchdown run by Masoli to win the game. An Oregon win and Arizona loss, along with an OSU win against WSU, meant that the Ducks and Beavers will fight for the chance to represent the Pac-10 in the Rose Bowl when they face each other in the 2009 Civil War at Autzen Stadium on Thursday Dec. 3rd.
The winner of the Civil War will face Ohio State from the Big-10, who secured their place last week. Despite already clinching the conference, Ohio State beat Michigan today to solidify their dominance.
This year’s Civil War will air nationally on ESPN at 6pm PST on December 3rd from Autzen Stadium.
