Mayor Sam Adams and Commissioner Randy Leonard are asking Portlanders and residents around the region to complete a brief web survey to help inform future emergency alert efforts. Following on last week’s ecoli water scare and last year’s winter storm, the City of Portland is also actively seeking input as City staff put together a draft Request for Proposals for emergency communications systems.

“The City of Portland takes matters of public health and safety incredibly seriously,” said Mayor Adams. “As we look at the best, fastest and most effective ways to reach people in times of emergency, we want input from residents, business leaders and anyone else interested in helping shape this critical effort.”

The City of Portland, working with partners across the region, recently launched www.publicalerts.org, a site that gathers in one place timely information on service disruptions affecting schools, roads, health services and mass transit.

“This is a very important public safety initiative,” said Commissioner Leonard. “We are depending on the public’s guidance to help us develop the best emergency information system in the country.”

The survey can be accessed online here. If you are experienced in emergency communications, you can view the RFP at portlandonline.com.
