On Thursday, Oregon Business Magazine named the top 150 private companies in the state of Oregon. You might be surprised to learn that only 1 of the top 5 is based in Portland. Rankings are based on annual revenues from the prior review period and 5 different companies reported more than $1 billion in sales.

Klamath Falls based Jeld-Wen topped the list with Les Schwab Tire Centers of Bend in second and Epic Aviation of Salem in third. Portland based Hoffman Corporation, an employee owned construction company, was fourth. The top five was rounded out by Roseburg Forest Products. The top 5 companies combined employ nearly 10,000 people in Oregon and over 30,000 nationwide.

Oregon Business Magazine pointed out a shakeup in the rankings this year due to the tough economy. Timber product companies, manufacturers and auto dealerships took the biggest hit.
