The City of Portland Bureau of Transportation advises the public that the NW 23rd Avenue reconstruction project begins Monday, January 4, 2010 and is expected to have traffic impacts through May 31, 2010. Phase one will consist of sidewalk and sewer work and will last through February 15, 2010.

Beginning Monday at 7:00 a.m. NW 23rd Avenue will be one-way northbound from NW Westover to NW Lovejoy all hours and all days through February 15 while sidewalk corners are reconstructed. A signed detour will direct traffic from southbound 23rd to Lovejoy to 25th to Westover and back to 23rd. Sidewalks will remain open and signs will direct pedestrians around street corners where curb ramp or curb extension construction is taking place.

In addition, NW Glisan will be closed between NW 22nd and 23rd and between NW 23rd and 24th avenues during the same period for sewer work.

Businesses will remain open, and both on-street and off-street parking will be available.

The NW 23rd Reconstruction Project will improve access for vehicles and pedestrians, preserve the city’s water and sewer infrastructure, and enhance the neighborhood.
