The holiday season is just around the corner and festivities contribute to increased congestion in Gresham’s major retail districts. To keep Gresham’s shopping districts clear and parking available during the holidays, construction is prohibited in certain popular retail districts from 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20, through 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2, 2010.
Construction work that requires the closing or blocking of any roadway, parking space or sidewalk in the specified retail districts is prohibited during normal business hours of the six-week span. Violators will be issued a stop work order by the City.
The construction limitation will be in effect for these retail districts:
• Downtown Business District: bounded by Powell Boulevard, Division Street, Northeast Kelly Avenue and Northwest Miller Street.
• West Gresham Business District: bounded by Southeast 181 Avenue, Southeast Stark Street and East Burnside Road.
• Southeast Gresham Business District: bounded by Southeast Burnside Road, East Powell Boulevard, Southeast First Street and Southeast Third Street from Burnside Road to Southeast First Street.
• Gresham Station: bounded by Northwest Division Street, Northwest Burnside Road, Northwest Eastman Parkway and Northwest Wallula Avenue.
The City’s Transportation Division must approve any construction work that will take place in a sidewalk or roadway area between Nov. 21 and Jan. 2; only emergency situations deemed necessary will be authorized. An exemption form and map of the applicable retail district boundaries is available at GreshamOregon.gov/Work or in the Permit Center at Gresham City Hall, 1333 N.W. Eastman Parkway.
