Portland filmmaker has an award-winning film The new independent film, “Unremembered,” is certainly memorable. North Portland resident, independent filmmaker, and PCC Cascade instructor, Greg Kerr (www.gregkerr.net) used his own money to produce this complex thriller and it’s beginning to get attention at film festivals around the country. It recently won Awards of Merit in three categories at the international awards competition for independent films, The Indie Fest, in La Jolla, California. “I paid about $30,000 to make ‘Unremembered’,” Kerr said, “and I used all my savings and then maxed out a few credit cards to pay for it which will come as no surprise to most indie filmmakers. This is really the mark of a true independent film. The total was a fraction of what a comparable Hollywood film would cost.” Since the film’s release early this summer, it has already become an official selection at the Eugene International Film Festival in Eugene, Oregon, the New Jersey Film Festival at Rutger’s University and the Great Lakes Online Film Festival in Pennsylvania this October. A modern interpretation of the ancient Greek epic, The Odyssey, Unremembered (Indie Fest award winner, feature film) is a story told in non-linear time about a man who has no past. In the style of films like Memento and Jacob’s Ladder,
but with a unique science fiction twist, this film follows the alternate reality journey of John Outis over sixteen days as he tries to restore his fractured life history. But the more his dark past comes into focus, the more the lives of his friends, his wife, and his lover are altered. As John’s past threatens to end his future, he turns to Tina Plantes, a brilliant and unconventional physics professor. Drawn deeper into the bizarre events of John’s life, she discovers a disturbing and far-reaching set of truths about dreams, time, and the power of the human will. “Although I wrote the screenplay five years ago, it feels much more poignant right now,” he said. “I think if you consider the film in that context, about a person who has lost complete control of his life due to circumstances seemingly beyond his control, you’re sure to find parallels with our everyday lives.” Unremembered was edited and completed at Kerr’s apartment on Killingsworth. “You just never know what might be going on in North Portland,” said Kerr. “With the amazing wealth of talent in this city, I wouldn’t be suprised if an Oscar winner eventually pops up from some quiet, Portland neighborhood.” Kerr also wrote the screenplay which earned an Indie Fest award for original screenplay.
The movie features local talent Tim Delaney (Indie Fest award winner, lead actor) as John Outis and Karla Mason (a veteran performer at Profile Theatre on Belmont) as Tina Plantes, with original music by Seattle composer Nan Avant. All of the film’s cast and crew are from the Pacific Northwest and the scenes filmed in Portland are very recognizable. Other scenes were filmed on the Oregon coast and the Deschutes River near Bend. Unremembered has not been rated by the Motion Picture Association of America. The film contains adult language, violence, adult situations, and complex ideas. Kerr is in the early stages of his next film project, an action-oriented, darkly comic thriller that takes place in Portland. His plan is to utilize all Portland talent for cast and crew and begin production in summer 2010. Readers of this article and a guest are invited to attend a free screening of Unremembered at Living Room Theaters, 341 SW 10th Avenue, downtown Portland, on October 20th at 7pm. Kerr will be there to talk about the film and answer questions. Due to the limited seating, reservations are required. To reserve, go to www.gregkerr.net/contact and follow the instructions there. Awesome trailer Greg,
Still feeling the tingling on the back of my neck…like I've been here before. Looking forward to seeing the movie. Any plans for a showing in Bellingham?
Let me know how I can help facilitate that.
All the Best,
Dale Kreiser
Thanks Dale!
I'm going to try as best I can to get it showing in as many places in the Northwest as possible. Theaters, even independent theaters, usually wait until the film has a lot of positive buzz before they will give them a run.
It may be online or even for sale on DVD prior to getting into theaters. If you haven't checked out the fan site here, be sure to search Unremembered, become a fan, and you'll get the latest info! Link to the fan page is

Thanks again!
