Yet Another Portland Police Shooting; Man Expected to Survive (Updated)

This evening, Monday December 27th at approximately 5:15pm, Portland Police officers were dispatched to a residence on SW Dakota Street on the report of a domestic disturbance. The caller stated that her 34-year-old son, Marcus Lagozzino, was outside the house, breaking windows, throwing rocks, armed with a machete and pacing in front of the residence. The caller also reported that her son has been suicidal in the past, might be trying to commit suicide-by-cop and that she believed he would be confrontational with police. The woman reported that she and her husband were hiding inside the house.

Several officers arrived and developed a plan to approach Lagozzino safely, who was still outside the residence armed with a machete.

As the officers approached the residence, the Lagozzino confronted them with the machete in hand. Officers gave verbal commands, followed by shots from a bean bag shotgun and a tazer. The armed Mr. Lagozzino continued to present a threat to the officers and was shot as a result.

Mr. Lagozzino was transported to an area hospital with critical injuries but is expected to survive the single gunshot wound.
