Blog: New Web Host for ThePortlander
One of the slogans we have here at ThePortland is “for Portland, by Portland.” We have a confession to make: In a way, we were not living up to that statement. Until just the other day, we were hosting our web site with a California company, on California and Virginia servers. Sure, they were a fine company but we were sending our money out of state and decided that was just unacceptable.
As of this past weekend, ThePortlander.com is proud to be hosted by a Portland company with servers right here in Oregon: Network Redux. Not only is Network Redux a local company, they are a great startup business story. Founded in 2004, they have grown to be a major player in the hosting and data business as well as a wonderful contributor to the tech and open source communities.
In addition to our money (and yours) staying right here in Oregon and supporting another startup biz, ThePortlander.com is now a better product. We have secured more computing power, data transfer and data storage while putting that content on servers closer to our readers. What does this mean to you? A more speedy experience on ThePortlander.com!
Though you shouldn’t notice anything but the improvements, please let us know if you come across any issues on our site. We also encourage you to check out Network Redux for your web hosting and data service needs.
