Multnomah County Commissioner Ted Wheeler was hospitalized on Saturday after a serious skiing accident that left him with a broken back and a concussion. Wheeler says he does not remember what happened and was apparently unconscious for at least 5 minutes. Once at the hospital, doctors discovered that among other injuries, Wheeler had broken his T6 and T7 vertebra. The prognosis is good however, he is expected to make a full recovery and will not suffer any long term paralysis.
Wheeler has been a county commissioner since 2007 after winning a landslide victory in the 2006 election. He is a Portland native but has studied and lived around the country. He currently resides in SW Portland with his wife Katrina and their daughter.
