Power outage at Oregon City plant spills 3 million gallons of sewage

The combined effluent of West Linn, Oregon City and Gladstone were pouring untreated into the Willamette River Sunday because of a power outage at an Oregon City treatment plant.Read the whole story here

UPDATE : A power outage at an Oregon City wastewater treatment plant that caused the discharge of raw sewage into the Willamette River Sunday has ended. The outage began at about 11:19 a.m. Power was restored at 5:20 p.m and the sewage leak has stopped.

It was NOT caused by any activity at the plant. But the result was the shutdown of the entire plant. The power outage is ongoing. The last estimate was about 3 million gallons of sewage had been dumped into the river as of about 2 p.m.

The power outage affected Tri-City Water Pollution Control Plant which serves the cities if West Linn, Oregon City and Gladstone. The cause of the power outage is unknown.

Officials at the state Department of Environmental Quality and the Oregon Emergency Response System. Signs have been posted in the area about the spill

None of the sewage has leaked onto land, all is being discharged through piping into the river.
