Sources say that Simon Max Hill (http://smhcasting.com/) has been busy for the past few weeks casting Gus Van Sant’s latest film, Restless. The film follows Enoch Brae, a 17-year-old funeral crasher, drawn to attending strangers’ memorials after losing both his parents. Love blooms among the gravestones when Brae meets the beautiful, tomboyish Annabel Cotton, a 16-year-old with six months to live.
Restless is an original screenplay by first-time screenwriter Jason Lew. Brian Grazer, Ron Howard and Bryce Howard (Ron Howard’s daughter) are slated to produce the film for Imagine Entertainment
Hill was unavailable for comment.
Nicola Corl Travels the Globe for Kapital
When Japanese clothing designer Kiro Hirata needs hair and makeup for a far-flung shoot he calls local stylist Nicola Corl. Hirata’s company is Kapital (www.kapital.jp). The clothing is hip. The locations exotic. The catalogs are a visual feast created by Hirata’s practical yet whimsical clothing, Corl’s stylings and photographer Eric Kvatek’s creative eye (www.kvatek.com). The trio have so far shot in Hawaii, Santa Fe, upstate New York, Thailand, Tanzania, Iceland and Brazil.
Corl has known Hirata and Kvatek for close to 10 years, and says “It’s like friends making art together.” She loves working with Hirata because he gives her absolute creative freedom. “I’ve tied people to sticks by their hair, made wigs out of rag rugs, painted people blue … what other job do you get to do that? I’m allowed to make the ridiculous become sublime.”

Portland photographer Laura Domela (http://www.lauradomela.com/) was recently hired by Rolling Stone magazine to shoot Eric Earley of the band Blitzen Trapper for the magazine’s In the Studio column. Domela says, “It’s a tiny tiny photo.” But Laura, it’s Rolling Stone! The issue is on newsstands now.

Leverage convention ? You know we expect to see it here first… with all the details.
I Like a lot of Mr Van Z's work, Elephant was amazing, moving topical. I love that he shoots in Portland.
I WISH just once he would choose subject matter that was not about teen/angst/love/dysfunction/alienation I would love to see him make a work about Adults, perhaps not even dealing with sexuality. there are so many human stories out there and we are awash in "Tales of the sullen teenager." Ours has become a culture so focused on youth, that I meet people who feel over the hill at 26, This summer I met a young woman that figured she was "past her prime" by a couple of years now, She was 19. and yes i am a Geezer!
