football_tackleIt is week 5 of the 2009 college football season and fans of the best teams in Oregon have some great games ahead of them on Saturday.

First, the Portland State Vikings are home again to take on Sacramento State. The Hornets are looking for their first win while the Vikings are hoping to get back on the winning track after losing their last 2 games. PSU should have the advantage in this one. Not only do they have a win this season, they have also scored more points and given up fewer than Sacramento has. Kick off is at 1pm PST from PGE Park; the game will not be televised.

Oregon State travels down to the desert to take on ASU after falling to Arizona in Reser Stadium last week. Both teams have 2 wins this season and are looking for a 3rd. The Sun Devils lost to #21 Georgia last week but held them to only 20 points, the most ASU has allowed all season. The Beavers on the other hand have given up as many as 37 points which was last weekend as they opened Pac-10 play against Arizona. The game kicks off at 4pm and will be televised on the Versus channel. ASU is a 5 point favorite.

Fresh off of a blowout win against #6 Cal and the drama around the possibility of Blount returning to the team, Oregon will play host to the Washington State Cougars. WSU lost to USC last week but gave up fewer points than they have to any other opponent this season.  Still, the Cougars have given up 131 points this year while only scoring 69 of their own. The Ducks on the other hand have scored 119 and only given up 82. Naturally, UO is a 35 point favorite….but don’t expect the game to be that much of a blowout. Oregon has a habit of playing up or down, depending on the opponent. The game kicks off at 6:30pm PST and will be shown on the Comcast Sports Network.

Finally, Linfield (Oregon’s only undefeated and highest ranked in team) is in California again to take on Menlo. Kick off is at noon.
