SIP's House - Modern and Sustainable

The first residential home made entirely of SIP’s (Structurally Insulated Panels) is complete and resides in Portland’s Cully Neighborhood, the new hub for sustainable homes. The appropriately titled SIP’s house is 2,089 sq.ft., 3beds, 2.5 baths and is to built to a LEED Platinum rating (will be certified after it is lived in for a year). The owners received a grant to have the project designed by Portland’s very own Seed Architecture Studio.

The home is all electric (no combustible heating system), is equipped with a heat recovery ventilator, uses solar thermal hot water, native plant landscaping and energy efficient appliances.  The interior finishes include: cork floors, cement with recycled glass counters, floor-to-ceiling windows with a very modern feel. The roof is designed and ready to become an impressive eco-roof.  The exterior is a combination of reclaimed cedar from barns around the Pacific NW and weathered steel.
