You have been waiting all year and now the Portland Pirate Festival is here. This weekend, join your mates at Cathedral Park for live music, historical re-enactments, games, dancing and a play area for kids. Gates open at 10am. Adult tickets are $15 or only $12 if purchased in advance, kids are $8 at the gate or $6 in advance. Children under 2 years old are free.
For a little extra fun, organizers are attempting a Guinness World Record on Sunday for the most pirates gathered in one place. To participate, show up by 2pm on Sunday, dressed in full pirate-ware and check the event web site for details.
Saturday is also International Talk Like A Pirate Day, which was started by two men from Albany, Oregon. The ‘holiday’ is now an international phenomenon and has inspired things like having your Facebook page presented to you in pirate as the default language.
