Citizens seeking a recall of Mayor Sam Adams didn’t wait long to file their perspective recall petition with the City of Portland Auditor. Now they have 90 days to collect 32,183 signatures to force a recall election of the embattled mayor.

The City of Portland has adopted the State of Oregon’s recall rules and regulations. These rules demand that petitioners collect the valid signatures of voters equaling 15% of the total number of votes cast in the most recent governor’s race. After turning in the minimum 32,183 signatures, the City Auditor has 10 days to certify their validity. Once that happens, the elected official is given 5 days to either resign or state their intent to seek affirmation through a recall election. The recall election must be held within 35 days of the 5 day response period ending.

Though given a decent amount of press in this liberal leaning city, the recall effort seems to have a way to go as far as organization. They claim over 600 volunteers but less than $3,000 raised to support the effort. A visit to the committee’s web site shows a blog that has not been updated in months and an “About Us” page that does not identify the leaders behind this effort.

Sam Adams admitted to lying about his relationship with Beau Breedlove which started when Breedlove was only 17 years old. The Mayor apologized but did not go as far as to resign. Just a few weeks back, the Attorney General of the State of Oregon announced that he would not be filing charges against Portland’s mayor.

Sound off Portland, what do you think? Should Sam Adams be recalled? Will you sign the petition to force a recall election?

No i wont sign a recall. all politicians lie and you cannot guarantee the next mayor wont lie either. But hey lets waste time and more money on this crap like Kenneth Starr did! guess like Beau Breedlove you want your 15 mins of fame too?

Strange…if Breedlove was a woman… Sam Adams would have been thrown into jail, named a pedifile and immediately taken from his seat. I don't think I appreciate the double standards you are implying. This isn't about fame, it is about justice.
