With little fan fair a new concert venue has emerged up in our neck of the woods, and its likely that you’ve never heard of it. Its actually not new but it has recently gone through an upgrade and has booked some major concerts for this summer.
I’m talking about the Maryhill Winery in the Columbia Gorge. No, not The Gorge Amphitheater. Like its well known sister, this one is smack in the middle of some beautiful northwest scenery, but Maryhill is a few hours closer to Portland!
The Maryhill Winery Amphitheater is an hour drive from Portland along the scenic Columbia River. This 10 year old winery is on the Washington side of the river, just north east of The Dalles. The newly built and covered stage faces nearly 1,500 reserved seats and general admission seating on the sloped lawn for another 3,500.
This summer, Marryhill Winery will play host to Counting Crows (July 17th), Jackson Browne (Aug 22nd) and John Legend (Aug 29th). Past summer performances have included Crosby, Stills & Nash and Willie Nelson to name a few. Tickets to this summer’s concerts can be purchased through Ticketmaster.
If you go out to Maryhill this summer for a show, consider going early to tour the winery and taste some local juice. They produce 19 varietals and 27 award winning wines. In 2009, Maryhill was named “Washington Winery of the Year” out of a class of 600. They are the 15th largest producer in the state. Down the road is the unrelated Maryhill Museum, an art museum with world class exhibits.
